Frequently Asked Questions

This is a list of questions that our clients and potential customers often ask.  This list will be updated periodically based on customer feedback.

What does TL15, TL30, TL30X6, TRTL15X6, TRTL30X6, TRTL60X6 and TXTL60 mean?

These are burglary ratings that are issued to safes from Underwriter's Laboratories (UL).  These safes are rated based on their resistance to a burglary attack from certain tools and torches for a set period of time.

Listed below will be a quick overview of what these ratings actually mean.

TL15 Safe

A UL Rated TL 15 Safe is a combination locked safe that has been tested by Underwriter's Laboratories to resist a powerful tool attack from their safecrackers for a total of 15 minutes.  Tools such as drills, grinders, picking tools, electric or mechanical tools, power cutters, and more are used.

What happens if I have an emergency, and I cannot open my safe?

The first thing to do is try and stay calm.  We understand that it can be frustrating and nervewracking when you cannot open your safe.  If you've repeatedly tried your combination and still cannot enter your safe, give us a call.  We always leave our customers a cell phone ready to answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you have a standard combination dial you are having trouble with, please refer to this video tutorial below.

If I pick the safe up from your store myself, can I get a better price?

Absolutely.

What do the model numbers mean?

Well most of the model numbers from any manufacturer have to do with dimensions, mostly the height and the width of the safe.  For example, the Megasafe Infinity Fortress 2514 has an interior height of about 25 inches, and an interior width of about 14 inches.  Furthermore, the Megasafe Jewelers x 6 4520 has an interior height of about 45 inches and a width of about 20 inches.

Is your store open after work hours and on weekends?

Yes, we recently restructured our hours of operation to be more convenient for our customers.  Monday through Friday, we are open from 9am to 6pm.  On Saturdays, we can open our showroom to you by scheduling an appointment.

Do you sell Luxury Safes?

Yes, we do.  We can fully customize a safe's outside and inside to any specification of choice to provide as much comfort and luxuriousness as requested.

If I want to sell my safe, would you buy my safe?  Do you accept "trade ins" if I want to upgrade my safe?

Yes, we certainly do buy safes.  If you have an old safe you want to get rid of, if you inherited a safe that you will not use, or if you retired and no longer need your safe, we would be happy to consider your safe for purchase.

We upgrade our clients' safes all the time.  If you are interested in trading in your safe because you want to upgrade in size or, quality or, both, you can work with a Hookway Safe Specialist to get monetary credit for your current safe and, in turn, get an outstanding deal on your new safe.
